Frequently asked questions
Plain answers for meeting treasurers. Updated August 2026.
The basics
What is Meeting Treasurer?
Meeting Treasurer is a simple bookkeeping app built for the treasurer of a 12-step meeting or other small group. You log money in and money out; it keeps the running balance, tracks each fund, and builds the treasurer's report automatically — ready to read at the business meeting and share as a PDF.
Do I need bookkeeping or accounting experience?
No. If you can note "basket $84, rent $90," you can keep the books. There are no debits, credits, or formulas — you record what happened, and the report adds itself up.
What devices does it work on?
iPhone (on the App Store), Android, and any modern web browser. Everyone in the group sees the same books wherever they sign in, and entries sync across devices.
For 12-step groups
Does it work for 12-step groups?
Yes — whatever the fellowship, it's designed around how those groups actually run: funds like group contributions and literature, a prudent reserve you can earmark, reports that cover the period since the last business meeting, and a clean handoff when the treasurer rotates. Meeting Treasurer is independently built and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any 12-step fellowship.
How does it respect anonymity?
Signing in takes only an email address and a password — no real name, phone number, or profile is required. Groups are private and invitation-only, and there are no ads and no tracking or advertising cookies. Members can use any email address they choose.
Can it track our prudent reserve?
Yes. Set the amount your group conscience chose, and Meeting Treasurer keeps it separate from spendable money — so the report can honestly answer "what do we actually have?" If your group is still deciding how much to keep, see our guide to prudent reserves.
Can it handle a digital basket — Venmo and the 7th Tradition?
Yes. Venmo contributions (United States) can flow into the books automatically — each payment is filed to the right fund by its memo, so digital basket money never gets lost or retyped. Cash, checks, and every other method are logged by hand in seconds, and you can see how much sits in each.
Money & reports
What does the treasurer's report include?
Starting balance, money in by fund, money out by expense category, and the ending balance — calculated for the period since your last business meeting. Every number traces back to a real entry in the ledger, and any report can be shared as a PDF.
Can more than one person keep the books?
Yes. Add co-treasurers who can record and edit entries alongside the owner, and viewers who can see everything but change nothing. A built-in audit log records who added, edited, or deleted each entry — and when.
What happens when our treasurer rotates?
You hand over the books, not a shoebox. The built-in ownership transfer passes the group to the incoming treasurer while keeping its complete history — every entry, report, and audit record.
Pricing
How much does it cost?
$1.99 a month or $14.99 a year, per group — one subscription covers the treasurer, co-treasurers, and all viewers. Every new group starts with a free 30-day trial, no credit card required. Full details are on the pricing page.
What if the group stops paying?
The books become read-only — nothing is deleted. Every record stays visible, the full ledger can still be exported, and subscribing again picks up exactly where you left off.
Privacy & your data
Who can see our group's books?
Only the people your group invites. Your records are not sold, mined, or used for advertising. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Can we take our records elsewhere?
Anytime. Export the complete ledger as a CSV file or share any report as a PDF — your group's records always belong to your group.
